The 1980s was the most prolific era for teen romance books It wasn't just Sweet Dreams vs Sweet Valley High in the 80s. Couples, Seniors, Wildfire, First Love, Caprice, Windswept, Heartlines are just a few series that deserve another read.

was the era of teen horror fiction & of a more modern style of romance fiction.
Popular authors like Katherine Applegate & Janet Quin-Harkin wrote for multiple genres. Cherie Bennett, Linda A Cooney were also big. Francine Pascal reinvented Sweet Valley & added Fearless to the mix.

Australian teen romance books were not just
Dolly Fiction There was Paradise Point, which was Dolly Fiction renamed, Hot Pursuit, Surf Side High & the very hard to find Bantam Wildflowers series, just to name a few. Much of the wonderful Aussie young adult fiction from the 1980s & 90s has romantic elements.

The noughties from 2000 onwards have brought us supernatural & paranormal romance, full of vampires, shapeshifters & other fantastical love interests, plus the young adult version of chick lit.
